This week we’re offering another free postcard template to download. Like our previous templates, this template includes all of the important dimensions to keep in mind when designing a postcard with bleeds as well as the special considerations to be taken when designing a card for mailing through the USPS.
This template is for 8.5″ x 5.5″ postcards, sometimes referred to as “jumbo” or “half-letter” postcards. One important thing to consider when designing a postcard for mailing is the postage rate involved. The postcard mailing rate (the cheapest first-class rate) is only applicable for cards smaller than 6″ x 4.25″. Therefore, the template found below must mail at the higher “letter” postage rate. However, the letter rate does allow more options for sorting, such as sending standard rather than first-class, which can bring the cost down considerably. If you have any questions about an upcoming mailing project, don’t hesitate to contact us so we can help you determine which size/mailing method will work best for your particular project.
The template is available as a PDF and a JPG file. It can be dropped into your chosen layout program as a background image to use as a guide when designing the address side of your card. The template can also be used for the non-addressed side, but only the red (bleed size) and green (text safe zone) lines and black dotted line (finished size) are important for that. The template should be hidden/removed before the file is sent to CEC for printing.
